A Father/Daughter Owned and Operated Business
We’re Steve and Sydney Polakowski, a father/daughter team and lifelong Upper Peninsula locals, and we own and operate The Lodge Luxury Suites. Welcome to our slice of happiness, our hometown, and our vast playground. Our goal is to share our secluded paradise with you, where you can unwind and fully immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of Houghton. From the sparkling waters of Portage Lake to the majestic Lift Bridge and the forests and hills that surround us, every view reminds us of why we love this place—and we hope it will inspire you too. After a day of adventure, you can relax and soak in the charm, history, and quiet magic of the Hancock and Houghton communities.

The Lodge Luxury Suites is housed in the historic 381 Elks Lodge, a building steeped in the rich traditions of the Upper Peninsula. Built to serve community and country, the Elks Lodge was a gathering place for locals—a spirit we’ve preserved at The Lodge. Guests are invited to enjoy our expansive shared spaces, including the original horseshoe bar and a welcoming fireplace, perfect for gathering, relaxing, or simply soaking in the building’s storied past. Outside, our patio provides a serene space to grill, unwind, and take in the natural beauty of Houghton. You can also unwind in our indoor sauna, inspired by Finnish tradition.
While we’ve preserved the history and charm of the Elks Lodge—from terrazzo floors and original trim to high ceilings—our suites offer all the modern comforts you expect. Each room features full kitchens, air conditioning, smart TVs, air-coil adjustable sleeper sofas, and Purple mattresses atop adjustable, inclinable massage bases, combining historic character with contemporary luxury.
Every suite has its own unique floor plan, distinctive views, and a name honoring legendary figures in the Elks community, allowing guests to experience a personal connection to the building’s past. The Lodge Luxury Suites isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a place to step into history while enjoying the comfort of modern living.

The Lodge is the perfect location for wedding parties, special occasions, organizational retreats, business conferences, and family get-togethers.
